We, at Explore Routes have teamed up with experts and chefs, masters of their crafts, who will take you on a journey of discovering Indian Cuisine. This is a curated trail, at the end of which you will be left with a story of how YOU travelled to India, explored it’s dishes, their ingredients and histories, their spices, and how to create the heady blend that just sets your taste buds off, and how to add your own twist to it.

Taste of North India

Our signature food trail through the plains of northern India, right to the plateaus of the central India. Accompanied by our storyteller dive deep into Indian cuisines from the north, exploring Punjabi, Mughlai, Awadhi and Bengali cuisines among others.

1. Delhi

Enjoy the charms of Old Delhi with a visit to the spice market and a food walk. Interactive sessions with our culinary storyteller and expert are also planned. Sightseeing in New Delhi is followed by a cooking session with a culinary expert.

2. Amritsar

Feel true serenity at the Golden Temple of Amritsar, witness the miracle of the langar, a free meal served at Gurudwaras all over the world. On average days, 50,000 strong people partake of the food served here. Enjoy organic meals at a rural homestay.

3. Jaipur

Experience the Royalty of Rajasthani architecture in Jaipur, the pink city. Also learn to whip up a dish from the royal Marwari cuisine under the tutelage of a local family.

4. Agra

A pitstop at Agra will make sure you don’t miss out on the splendour of the Taj, as you witness (if the weather is right) one of the most glorious sunrises of your life.

5. Lucknow

Our bespoke culinary trail in Lucknow will take you through a residential neighbourhood of just bawarchis (cooks) and give you an opportunity to master a local dish from the Awadhi cuisine, as you study the nuances of taste with a Culinary artist.

6. Kolkata

Explore the Indo Saracenic heritage of Kolkata as you take a euphoria inducing food walk in this cultural treasure trove of a city. Attend a cooking demo of authentic Bengali cuisine hosted by an esteemed historian and storyteller.

Aromas of Karnataka

From the very progressive coffee bowl state of India, Karnataka, bustling with its technology hub of Bangalore, spice and coffee plantations of Kodagu or Coorg and royal Mysore to the serene paradise of “God’s own country” that is Kerala.

1. Mysore

Witness the regal beauty of the Mysore Palace, get a taste of Yoga and food for the soul with a Satvic Cuisine cooking demo. We will also help you shop for ingredients before proceeding to try and whip up local dishes under an expert.

2. Kabini

Enjoy a jungle safari in Kabini, you can also try your hand at cooking a signature jungle dish surrounded by the moist deciduous forests of the North Western Ghats, with towering teak and rosewood trees watching over you.

3. Coorg

In Coorg, you can walk through a local coffee plantation with its rich aromas. Visit a Kodagu/Kodavu family, learn about their culture and style of cooking with their signature Pandi (Pork) Curry dish.

4. Tellichery

Understand the nuances of Malabar cuisine with an expert host Indian family, this non-vegetarian cuisine from Northern Kerala, which has influences from Mughlai, Portuguese, British, Dutch, Jewish and even French cuisines

Spices of South India

A tale of culture and cuisine, starting in the state of Tamil Nadu and ending in the picture-perfect beauty of Kerala. Explore these two states rich in culture and therefore cuisine. Enjoy the serene backwaters of Kerala, and café crawl your way through the charming Fort Kochi.

1. Chennai

Enjoy a lunch and hands on cooking experience with our storyteller before going on to explore the magnificent temple architecture of Chennai. Walk through the flower and vegetable markets and attend a Bharatanatyam Show.

2. Pondicherry

Puducherry will be explored first on a bicycle, followed by a unique walking tour that traces the city’s French Colonial roots. Also planned here is a cooking demo for the regional dishes, and a visit to Auroville and Matri Mandir.

3. Chettinad

Learn about the Chettiars, a community of traders who built more than 10,000 mansions in their home region, sparing no expense. Tour the region and enjoy an
evening cooking session, trying your hand at a local dish.

4. Rajakkad

Explore the emerald green of God’s own country in Rajakkad. Visit a farm and coffee plantations.

5. Periyar

Explore the Jungles of Periyar and South India’s most famous wildlife reserve. Apart from the Jungle safari, you’ll also walk through a spice plantation and interactions with a local family to satisfy your culinary questions regarding the elusive spices.

6. Alleppey

Rediscover yourself in the serene backwaters of Kerala, in Alleppey. Pay a visit to the Alleppey Coir Museum, followed by a cooking demo and lunch hosted by our Storytellers, who will take you on a journey through their traditional Indo-Syrian cuisine.

7. Kochi

Witness a multitude of cultural footprints at Kochi as you participate in an epic café crawl, try cooking some Anglo-Indian dishes and interact with the tea selling couple who travel the world. Learn how toddy is made, explore the Jewish Synagogue and Dutch Palace.
